Dear colleagues, CODATA International Community, Executive Committee, National Committees Forum, Training List, Global Open Science Cloud List;

Our colleagues at the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have asked me to distribute the message below to the CODATA community. The US NAS is looking for nominees from Central Asian Countries. "Kazakhstan, Tajkistan, and Kyrgyzstan” are mentioned, but I assume this would apply to other countries in the region, including Mongolia.

With very best wishes,

Simon.

> The National Academies Board on Life Sciences (BLS) is soliciting nominations to an international ad hoc expert committee to provide support to a new project to better understand effective practices for the governance of and access to life sciences data and knowledge within research institutions. This project will engage scientists from various countries internationally, with a focus on Central Asia.
>
> The increasing digitalization in the life sciences has led to numerous opportunities for addressing challenges in health, agricultural, environmental, defense, and other sectors. Life scientists are generating and analyzing large amounts of data from various sources including different cell types and organisms in natural or experimental environments. Although data from scientific research are not necessarily sensitive, they may represent the outcomes of significant investment by governments, industry, investors, and philanthropic organizations.
>
> We seek nominations for 10 Committee members drawn from academia, industry, government research institutions, and other research organizations. Nominees will possess a mix of expertise, including but not limited to: genomics, systems biology, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, next generation sequencing, biotechnology, biorisk management, cybersecurity, data security, and/or international data-sharing policies. Because of the study focus, we are particularly interested in nominations from Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Tajkistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
