I am writing to announce the “SEDAC’s Global COVID-19 Viewer: A
User-Friendly Tool for Assessing National and Subnational Trends and Risk
Factors in Coronavirus Spread” Earthdata webinar to be held on Wednesday,
October 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM EDT (UTC/GMT-4).

*Brief Description: * Join us for an introduction to the NASA Socioeconomic
Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) Global COVID-19 Viewer, a map-based
tool for understanding the spread of the Coronavirus and underlying risk
factors. During the webinar participants will learn about its development
and then a live demonstration of the viewer focusing on current hotspots,
interesting trends, and an exploration of the risk factors will be
provided.



*Speaker:*  *Dr. Alex de Sherbinin, Associate Director for Science
Applications at the Center for International Earth Science Information
Network (CIESIN) *



Dr. de Sherbinin is a geographer whose research interests focus on the
human aspects of global environmental change and geospatial data
applications, integration, and dissemination. He serves as deputy manager
of the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), coordinator
of the Population-Environment Research Network (PERN), acting chair of the
International Science Council World Data System scientific committee, and
lecturer in the Earth Institute’s Sustainability Science master’s degree
program.  Prior to CIESIN he served as a program officer at the
International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and a population
geographer at the Population Reference Bureau (PRB).



*Speaker: **Joe Schumacher, Senior Information Specialist, CIESIN *



Mr. Schumacher is a Senior Information Specialist at CIESIN within the
Earth Institute at Columbia University. At CIESIN he leads the NASA
Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) User Services office.  In
that role he is responsible for outreach activities, managing user
questions, tracking the impact of SEDAC data and services, and coordinates
with others the release of SEDAC datasets, services and web pages.
