[CODATA-international] INFORMED DECISIONMAKING RE: Data Together COVID-19 Appeal and Actions

Dear Colleagues, Fotis et al.

bravo on the progress; well done.

I value all those efforts and directions.

My last email on this topic though:

In the tragic light of many many, thousands, if not more,
DEATHs etc. re virus and related health issues (zoonotics as just one
example)
my comments on OPen Access progress and such efforts are fourfold:

-way TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

-the few good deeds are easily exploited and used as a greenwash and
healthwash by the bad actors (which seem to dominate).

-we have seen and heard such things of progress since Jame Cook,
Enlightenment many centuries ago. So where are we now ?

-ivy league education and research, ha ha. Tuition spent for what by whom ?

Nobody really believes those things like open access and progress anymore
in earnest, and trust is lost for good; done with.
How about the pervasive force and framework of capitalism, and to change it
?

Re. the EU and many others, beyond 'raw medicine and vet' data I mentioned
in the last email, I can here just repeat what I stated and experienced for
several decades in all outlets I have available:
=>Get the bird data like ICARUS with Max Planck Inst (
https://www.mpg.de/13684039/icarus-test-phase), Bird Banding Centers
(EURING and RSPB/BTO UK), MOVEBANK.org, Fisheries data,
WindPark impact data, even museum data and university-based science (I am
thinking here of forest inventory, or freshwater fish & contaminant data for
major rivers like Elbe, Rhine, Danube, and then PRIMATOLOGY Centers,
Development AId, Antarctic Service etc etc) online, open access free of
charge in a meaningful usable format for people to use.
Open Source GIS is one of those formats to employ.
And do it now. The open WWW is there, so why not using it ? It's blunt
mis-management any other, and for everybody to see. People die because of
it, unused management opportunities.

That's my informed personal view on the issue.

Kind regards and thanks; let's try to stay safe while data are blocked and
not used
