Dear colleague,

You are invited to submit an abstract to the following session of the Fall
2020 American Geophysical Union meeting virtual (mostly) and in San
Francisco, CA (December 7-11).

*IN040 - The Importance of Trustworthy Digital Repositories for Open Data
in Developing Countries*
https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm20/prelim.cgi/Session/104192

Developed countries have seen a marked acceleration in scientific advances
in part due to robust data infrastructure and disciplinary data
repositories. Unfortunately, many developing countries have been slow to
adopt open data policies and practices, and many data sets either remain
inaccessible (and at risk of loss) on researchers' computers or require a
personal approach to government agency staff to obtain. Development
partners and researchers from the Global North often expatriate data
because host governments lack policies and infrastructure for data
archiving. *The goal of this session is to learn from the experiences of
developing country data centers and international data groups (e.g., WDS,
CODATA, RDA) seeking to develop data infrastructure in developing countries
that adheres to FAIR data principles.* It is open to any individual or
organization that is working to build indigenous capacity for data
management, dissemination, and preservation in the Global South. *We
particularly welcome representatives of developing country repositories who
wish to share their experiences, and hope that the virtual format will
enable greater participation.*

Please note that the deadline for abstract submission is *Wednesday, 29
July* at 23:59 EDT/03:59 +1 GMT.

For general information about abstract submissions visit:

Please circulate this to your colleagues who may have interest in this
session. We look forward to receiving your contribution.

Sincerely,
