Subject: [CODATA-international] Explore the GEO Report on Impact

Dear colleagues,

To celebrate GEO Week 2019 (4-9 Nov 2019) [1] , I would like to share the GEO Report on Impact.

The GEO Report on Impact 2016-2019 showcases the global and regional impacts of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) community. Covering more than 50 activities under the GEO Work Programme [2], this report includes highlights and impact stories that illustrate GEO’s key contributions. Learn how, together with partners, GEO is transforming Earth observations into knowledge and tools for social impact.

For example, Earth observations play a major role in helping countries achieve the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the associated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Earth observations are used for monitoring and reporting on the SDG targets and indicators, and helps countries to develop policies, track progress, make informed decisions and implement change. GEO promotes the inclusion of Earth observation data in the methodologies that are used to measure and ultimately achieve the SDGs. Details at https://www.georeportonimpact.org/report-on-impact-sdgs

The data, information and knowledge derived from Earth observations helps countries respond to environmental challenges presented by climate change. GEO’s deepened engagement at the international policy level and through increasing contributions to UNFCCC efforts illustrates GEO’s increased impact on global policy and climate change. Details at https://www.georeportonimpact.org/report-on-impact-climate

I thank all governments, scientists and colleagues for their contributions to GEO and invite all interested to be part of our community.

Best wishes,

Suchith
