Hi Simon, all

In addition to the report mentioned below, I want to point to my own work on the Competencies and KSAs for Data Stewards.

The project page is here: https://zenodo.org/communities/nl-ds-pd-ls/

The most prominent deliverable so far is the matrix https://zenodo.org/record/2561723#.XPDGWsgzaUk which was published in February.

By now we have extended it with a third level of data stewards (the connection to the e-infrastructure) and also with KSAs and learning objectives. See poster here: https://zenodo.org/record/2616477#.XPDGtMgzaUk

This new matrix will be uploaded to Zenodo the coming 2 weeks..

Finally we have two 1-day workshops in Utrecht (11 & 12 June) where we will be working with the community of data stewards and discussing the developed matrices, their job descriptions, their training needs and solutions etc. There are a few places left so if you are interested please join us!

The registration is here: https://www.dtls.nl/events/data-steward-knowledge-and-skills-workshop/

Data Stewardship on the map: A study of tasks and roles in Dutch research institutes - Report by the Task Group Data Stewardship of the National Coordination Point (LCRDM)
Ingeborg Verheul, Melanie Imming, Jacquelijn Ringersma, Annemie Mordant, Jan Lucas van der Ploeg, Martine Pronk (Eds.)

Good research requires good data stewardship. The researcher himself/herself is primarily responsible for all the data. However there always is the need for professional support to achieve proper research data management. To that end, diverse supportive data stewardship roles and functions have evolved in recent years.

For research institutes it is becoming ever clearer that professionalization of data stewardship is important; that data stewards are indispensable and that the various data stewardship roles must be placed within an organizational framework.

During October 2018 through March 2019, a LCRDM task group, taking into account the prevailing uncertainty about the interpretation of data stewardship, worked on providing insight in what Dutch research institutes currently demand of data stewards and also what has been implemented and developed by and for them. Based on a literature study, analysis of recently published vacancies, a questionnaire and a series of interviews, a clear picture has been drawn of how data stewardship is currently implemented at Dutch institutes.

In the report three task areas are identified: ‘Embedded and operational’, ‘Generic and advice’ and ‘Policy, strategy and coordination’. These task areas clearly indicate where the emphasis of a data stewardship function lies and offers a basis for a clearer job description. However, the generic or the operational data steward, does not exist. When revising function profiles it is therefore advisable to formulate them loosely so they incorporate all relevant responsibilities.

Report, infographic and underlying data are available in Dutch and in English through the website of the LCRDM and Zenodo. Printed copies of the report and infographic can be ordered through the LCRDM office: <http://www.lcrdm.nl/en> http://www.lcrdm.nl/en / <https://zenodo.org/record/2669150> DOI 10.5281/zenodo.2669150

The LCRDM Task Group was formed by:
Maarten van Bentum (University of Twente), Boudewijn van den Berg (LCRDM support), Marije van der Geest (University Medical Center Groningen, liaison ZonMW project), Henk van den Hoogen (Maastricht University, also LCRDM advisory group), Melanie Imming (Imming Impact, consultancy), Mijke Jetten (Radboud University), Toine Kuiper (Eindhoven University of Technology), Annemie Mordant (Maastricht University/MEMIC, also LCRDM advisory group), Nicole Koster (University ofTwente), Jan Lucas van der Ploeg (University Medical Center Groningen), Gera Pronk (ISeeTea), Martine Pronk (University Utrecht), Saskia Rademaker (The Hague University of Applied Sciences ), Jacquelijn Ringersma (Wageningen University & Research, also LCRDM advisory group), Marta Teperek (Delft University of Technology), Marijke Verheij (Groningen Uni versity), Ingeborg Verheul (LCRDM)

With cooperation of:
Joke Bakker (Groningen University), Vincent Boxelaar (Groningen University), Joldy Coenen (Maastricht University/MEMIC), Alastair Dunning (Delft University of Technology), Christina Elsenga (Groningen University), Joeri Kalter (Wageningen University & Research), Wouter Kool (Leiden University), Lena Karvovskaya (Utrecht University), Renate Mattiszik (Saxion, University of Applied Sciences), Paula Rinkens (Maastricht University/MEMIC), Dick Vestdijk (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences)

In the preparation of this study the LCRDM task group closely cooperated with parallel projects on data stewardship conducted by ZonMW (BioLifeSciences) and Wageningen University & Research.

The National Coordination Point Research Data Management (LCRDM) is a national network of experts on research data management (RDM). The LCRDM connects policy and daily practice. Within LCRDM experts work together to put RDM topics on the agenda that ask for mutual national cooperation. For more information see: <http://www.lcrdm.nl/> www.lcrdm.nl
