The fourth webinar organised by the Global Open Science Cloud WG on Data
Interoperability, and the third in our series surveying data
interoperability activities in different countries and regions, took place
on Tuesday, 8 November at 07:00-08:30 UTC. A panel of Australian experts
held a lively discussion on interoperability challenges and opportunities
and the many activities going on ‘downunder’.

Data Interoperability in Australia: challenges and opportunities

Did you know that Australia’s National Research Infrastructure Roadmap
<https://www.education.gov.au/national-research-infrastructure/2021-national-research-infrastructure-roadmap>
highlights
the need for integrated national-scale datasets to facilitate and encourage
interdisciplinary approaches to problems? The Roadmap identifies needs and
sets priorities for future investment in Australia’s national research
infrastructure and underlines that “interoperability of data is essential
to ensure use and reuse of data and collections to minimise duplication of
efforts and resources”. In this presentation, a panel of experts from the
Australian research infrastructure landscape will share challenges and
opportunities in enabling data interoperability on a national scale,
including the vision of the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) to
create “thematic research data commons” and we will discuss how these could
complement the Global Open Science Cloud (GOSC).

This webinar is organised by the GOSC Data Interoperability Working Group

Asha
