CODATA is very pleased to communicate that we are well-advanced with the
Grant Agreement Preparation process with the European Commission for the
recently approved proposal CDIF4EOSC: Developing and implementing the
Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework for EOSC.

The distinct approach of the CDIF4EOSC project is to build on the
Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF) <https://cdif.codata.org/>.
The project will extend the CDIF recommendations, adding profiles and
guidelines, and use case based examples, to form a comprehensive and
actionable playbook for FAIR Integration in the European Open Science Cloud
(EOSC)
<https://research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu/strategy/strategy-research-and-innovation/our-digital-future/open-science/european-open-science-cloud-eosc_en>
and
beyond.

This is a remarkable opportunity to extend and refine CDIF, and to furnish
EOSC with a comprehensive and implementable guide to interoperability!

Going beyond the original FAIR principles, CDIF4EOSC will develop a
FAIR-by-design approach for creating FAIR digital objects. The overarching
objective of the project is to enable FAIR integration by developing the
CDIFEOSC Playbook and situating this at the heart of EOSC practices, and
fully integrated in the EOSC Federation. The project will work closely with
three Use Cases on oceans sciences, climate adaptation and
safe-and-sustainable by design materials development, develop a suite of
AI-assisted FAIRification tools and services and ensure integration with
the EOSC Federation, EOSC Nodes and the Common European Data Spaces.

The suite of AI-assisted FAIRification tools and services will accelerate
FAIRification at scale and have significant benefits for EOSC and the
European Research Area. To maximise impact, targeted steps will be taken to
implement the project outputs in EOSC Federation Nodes and Common European
Data Spaces.

The three year project has a total budget of 8M euros and is set to start
on 1 June 2026. The project involves an excellent consortium: CODATA

The substantive Work Packages cover: 1) Development of the CDIF4EOSC
Playbook, led by CODATA; 2) Data Quality Protocols and Infrastructure, led
by 7P9-SI; 3) CDIF4EOSC Tools and Services Development, led by the
University of Essex; 4) FAIR Integration with EOSC Nodes and EU Data
Spaces, led by EGI; 5) Use Cases, led by NOC; 6) Integration of CDIF4EOSC,
Tools and Services for EOSC Federation, led by CNRS (DataTerra); 7)
Dissemination, training, stakeholder engagement, led by GAC.

We have already been working with the EOSC Association to produce the
project logo! Watch this space for further updates and announcement as we
finalise the GAP and the project gets underway.

Thanks,

Asha
